Malawi is working actively to mobilize men to change their attitudes towards women. The government has recently enacted a law prohibiting violence against women.
Storberget will meet the Malawi Minister of Justice, Henry Phoya, Interior Minister Ernest Malenga, and representatives of international organizations. He will also meet a number of NGO's in Malawi working to combat violence against women.
Norway is a major donor to Malawi. A substantial part of the support is linked to health projects. There is a strong focus on women's role in these support schemes. Among other things, part of the health support is aimed at mothers and measures to combat violence against women.
