Estimates show that the local government sector will take in as much as NOK 2.3 billion more in tax revenues in 2012. “This is a clear strengthening of municipal finances,” says Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Liv Signe Navarsete.
“The sound growth of the Norwegian economy is providing higher revenues to the municipalities. This means that the municipalities can improve their financial situation or improve services to citizens. Municipalities can use the additional funds to build even more nursing homes, kindergartens or better schools,” says Navarsete.
The local government sector's revenues in 2012 will grow by a total of NOK 5.1 billion, with free revenues growing by NOK 3.5 billion.
The local government sector's tax revenues in 2012 will be reconsidered when the 2012 fiscal budget is presented in the autumn.
