The EEA funding schemes were established when the EEA was expanded to include ten new countries in May 2004 – Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Cyprus and Malta. In 2007, the schemes were further expanded to cover Romania and Bulgaria. The EEA/EFTA countries, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, have made total contributions of EUR 1,307 billion to 15 recipient countries from 2004–2009. Norway’s contribution totals approximately NOK 10 billion.
