State secretary Mr. Per Rune Henriksen attends The Second Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) in Abu Dhabi today and tomorrow. ā The aim of CEM is to contribute in developing and deploying smart and climate friendly technologies and solutions for future energy supply, says Henriksen.
CEM is a global initiative on ministerial level, aiming at promoting development of clean energy technology, information sharing and encouraging the transition to a global clean energy economy. The initiative was launched by the United States Energy Secretary Mr. Steven Chu in 2010.
After the first meeting in Washington D.C. last year, eleven working groups were established. Norway participates in five of these: Carbon Capture, Use and Storage, International Smart Grid Action Network, Sustainable Hydropower, Multilateral Solar and Wind Working Group, and Clean Energy Education & Empowerment.
-CEM is the only global high-level forum focused on clean energy production and energy efficiency. I am looking forward to discussions on how we can accelerate the development and use of new and clean energy technology. This is paramount for our energy future and the battle against climate change, says the State Secretary.
The meeting will take place in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on 6 and 7 April. The US Secretary for Energy, Mr. Chu will attend, along with ministers from countries such as Canada, UK, Germany and Italy.
