Attended Norwegian-British energy seminar

Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe participated on Wednesday 26 September in a Norwegian-British energy seminar hosted by the Norwegian Embassy in London, where he spoke about “Perspectives on Norwegian-British energy and climate cooperation”.

“Norway and the United Kingdom cooperate extensively and successfully in various areas in the energy sector. We both have ambitious targets for increasing the proportion of renewable energy, and our respective carbon capture and storage projects are at the forefront of international efforts. The UK’s large consumption of Norwegian gas underlines the mutual dependence and the impotance of energy cooperation between our two countries,” said Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe in his talk.

He also discussed the planned power cable between Norway and the United Kingdom.

“Installing a power cable between Norway and the United Kingdom is important for both our countries. It will ensure greater supply security, and more effective utilisation of the energy produced in both countries. That is why this project has priority,” said Borten Moe.

The minister will participate in the opening of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Norfolk on Thursday 27 September. He praised the cooperation between the UK authorities and Statoil/Statkraft.

“Now that one of the world’s largest wind farms is to be opened, a further milestone has definitely been reached in Norwegian-British energy cooperation. I really look forward to seeing the fruits of this cooperation with my own eyes,” said Borten Moe.

The seminar was also attended by HRH Crown Prince Haakon, Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske, CEO Helge Lund of Statoil, CEO Christian Rynning-Tønnesen of Statkraft, and the personal adviser to the UK Foreign Secretary on Energy and Resource Security, Lord Howell. The seminar took place at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, London.
