Opened Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm

On Thursday 27 September 2012, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe participated in the opening of Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Norfolk, England.

“The construction of Sheringham Shoal is a milestone in Norwegian-British energy cooperation. One of the world’s largest wind farms will now start production. I am impressed with the UK authorities’ dedication to realising this offshore wind project, and proud that Norwegian technology is making a contribution,” says Ola Borten Moe.

Sheringham Shoal comprises 88 wind turbines, producing approximately 1.1 terrawatt hours (TWh) of electricity annually. This equals the annual electricity consumption of around 220,000 UK households.

The opening was also attended by HRH Crown Prince Haakon, Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske, CEO Helge Lund of Statoil, CEO Christian Rynning-Tønnesen of Statkraft, and UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Edward Davey. The opening ceremony took place at Holkham Hall, outside Norwich.
