Mr. Odd Roger Enoksen, Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, and Mrs. Georgina Kessel, Mexico’s Secretary of Energy met on 22 and 23 March regarding increased cooperation on petroleum and energy related issues between the two countries.

-Mexico and Norway have much to gain on cooperating in the petroleum sector. Among other things the countries have mutual interests within research and technology development, particularly regarding deep waters, Minister Enoksen said in meeting with Minister Kessel.

In addition to the meetings with the Secretary of Energy, Mr Enoksen met with Members of Parliament, the management of the state owned company PEMEX and other industrial representatives. They all showed a keen interest in how Norway organizes the petroleum activities.

-We are happy to share the Norwegian experiences, but Mexico must find its own way to organize its petroleum activities, Minister Enoksen emphasised.

In 2003, Norway and Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in a wide range of issues, such as technology development, petroleum policy, development of renewable energy and energy efficiency. During Mr. Enoksen's visit in Mexico, he and Minister Kessel signed an addendum to the MoU specifying the cooperation through a work program to be updated annually.
