Minister of Petroleum and Energy on the opening of the Peregrino field

The Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr Ola Borten Moe, today participated in the opening of the Peregrino field in Brazil. Peregrino is Statoil's largest operatorship outside Norway. Today the field was officially opened by H. R. H. Crown Prince Haakon Magnus.

- This is an important step for Norwegian oil and gas industry, which gradually is becoming more international. Brazil is an important partner to Norway, and I believe Norwegian oil and gas industry is facing large opportunities in the country, says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe.

The Peregrino field is located 85 km offshore Brazil in water depths of around 100 metres. The reservoir is 2300 metres below the sea bed. Statoil holds 60 % ownership and the operatorship of the field. Sinochem Group holds 40 % ownership.

- Brazil is Norway’s most important partner in Latin America. Recently, the Government presented its strategy for Brazil. The strategy will facilitate increased cooperation in a number of areas, not least in the energy field, says Borten Moe.

Today, approximately 120 Norwegian companies are represented in Brazil, of which two thirds are companies in the petroleum sector.
