The Norwegian Government will construct a full scale CCS (retrofit) facility for a gasfired power plant in connection to the existing gas fired power plant at Kårstø on the Western coast of Norway. The plan is to make the investment decision in 2009.
The facility is planned to capture 1 million tonnes of CO2 from the exhaust gas at the power plant and subsequently transport the CO2 by pipeline to safe storage in geological formations under the sea bed. The State owned entity Gassnova is responsible for this important and comprehensive work.
Gassnova will forward the economical and technical basis for an investment
decision to the Ministry of Petroleum in September 2009.
