Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske recently brought the American ambassador, Barry B. White, 70 degrees north in Norway. They experienced a wintery Melkøya shining in the twilight.
- I hope that the visit to the Melkøya can contribute positively to American companies considering doing business with Norwegian companies in the future. There are great opportunities for Norwegian technology in the U.S. market. In areas such as subsea technology, Norway is a world leader. We wanted to showcase the whole spectrum of expertise of Norwegian suppliers today, and Melkøya served that purpose well, Giske said.
Among the companies present were Aibel, BIS, Höegh LNG and ENI. In addition, the mayor of Hammerfest, Alf E. Jacobsen, said a few words about the many positive effects the plant on Melkøya has had for the local community in Hammerfest.
- It impressed me that the ambassador took the time for such a trip just 12 days before the U.S. President is coming to Norway. I would think he has enough to do with that visit, Giske commented.
