Happy birthday, Nelson Mandela!

Dear Nelson Mandela,

On behalf of the Norwegian people, it is an honour to congratulate you on your 90th birthday.

The Norwegian people have supported your fight against apartheid and for freedom, and we greatly admire the work you have done to build a democratic South Africa. Your efforts to end poverty and create a better world are unique. I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with you in this important work.

Norway had the honour of holding the 46664 Concert in Tromsø in 2005, and we were delighted that you visited us on that occasion.

You are a role model for a great many people in the world. Your efforts will never be forgotten. And today we wish to pay tribute to you, and to wish you every happiness in the future.
