Aung San Suu Kyi is visiting Norway from 15–18 June, on the invitation of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.
While she is in Oslo, Aung San Suu Kyi will meet the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, and she will be given an audience at the Royal Palace. These meetings will reflect the close and longstanding relationship between Ms Suu Kyi and Norway. In his conversations with Ms Suu Kyi, Mr Stoltenberg will focus on her important role in the democratisation process in Myanmar, and on Norway’s engagement in the country.
Apart from these meetings, Ms Suu Kyi will also hold the Nobel Peace Prize lecture that she was unable to hold in 1991. On Friday evening, the Government is hosting a gala dinner at Akershus Castle, and there will be a public meeting in her honour at Rådhusplassen on Saturday 16 June. On Sunday, Ms Suu Kyi will travel to Bergen to receive the Rafto Prize, which she was awarded in 1990.
