Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg has today sent the following letter of condolences to Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai, after yesterday’s suicide attack in the Baghlan Province:
“Dear President Karzai,
We were deeply shocked and saddened to receive the news of the suicide attack in Baghlan province yesterday. On behalf of the Norwegian people, I would like to express our condemnation of this devastating attack on innocent civilians.
I would like to assure you that Norway remains committed to doing all it can to realise the hopes of Afghanistan’s young generation and all those who have shown their belief in democracy by electing members of parliament. If anything, this tragic event has strengthened our resolve.
Please convey my deepest condolences to the Afghan people and to those who have lost their loved ones. Please also convey my condolences to HE Mr Yunuus Qanooni, Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, on the loss of his fellow parliamentarians.
Yours sincerely
Jens Stoltenberg”.
