Ban Ki-moon’s re-election is welcome

“I welcome Ban Ki-moon’s announcement today that he will stand for re-election as United Nations Secretary-General. Ban Ki-moon has been and continues to be a close partner in areas that are of high priority for both Norway and the UN. We look forward to continuing and deepening the collaboration,” says Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Norway will seek to deepen its cooperation with the Secretary General with regard to climate change, women’s rights and gender equality, as well as efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals, in particular those relating to women’s and children’s health. Norway also values Ban Ki-moon’s strong commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

“An effective and strong UN is important for Norway. The Secretary-General has an important job in strengthening the UN’s ability to solve our common challenges,” says the Prime Minister.
