Today the Minister of Government Administration, Reform and Church Affairs, Rigmor Aasrud, visited Aamot Church and talked to the church staff who provided assistance to victims of the attacks on Utøya and in Oslo and their families. - The priests,  deacons and other church employees have done a tremendous job during this national tragedy, Ms Aasrud said.

Churches have been open in Ringerike, Oslo and in the many communities that have been hit by the tragedy. Memorial services have given people an opportunity to express their grief, and priests and deacons have been available for anyone who has wanted to talk.

- I’m impressed by the dedication that has been shown and the ability to rise to this challenge in the middle of the holiday season, and on behalf of the Government and myself I want to express our deep gratitude to the many who have changed their plans and made it possible to provide a round-the-clock service, said Ms Aasrud.

Churches all around Norway will face new challenges as the dead are brought home for funerals. This will put the church under considerable pressure in the time to come.

- I am proud to belong to a church that offers people faith, hope and love at a time like this, a church meets people with openness, sensitivity and respect, regardless of their beliefs, life choices and values.

- As Minister of Church Affairs, I am aware that providing this service has required a huge effort that has left its mark on a lot of people. The Ministry will seek to establish good routines for following up and providing support for church employees in the aftermath of this tragedy.
