Memorials and Honours after the 22 July attacks

The Government has decided to establish two memorials after 22 July, one in Oslo and one in connection with Utøya.
The Government is in the process of appointing a steering committee that will consider and suggest designs for the memorials. The memorials will honour the deceased, survivors, rescue personnel and volunteers. Åse Kleveland will be the chair of the committee.

- The memorials will both honour the memory of the deceased and represent a collective tribute to the volunteers, survivors and rescue personnel. The names of the deceased will be included in or appear in connection to at least one of the memorials, says Minister of Culture Anniken Huitfeldt.

Members of the steering committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Government Administration, Reform and Church Affairs, the Workers’ Youth League, the national support group for the attacks and those affected in the Government Quarter. The steering committee will work closely with the municipalities of Oslo and Hole with regard to where the memorials will be situated. The committee will present its recommendation to the Ministry of Culture by 1 April 2012.

No special individual marks of distinction will be established in connection to 22 July. However, individuals may be given marks of distinction within the current system of medals and decorations.
