Statement to engage in closer cooperation on security stabilisation and capacity building in Mali

 “Mali and Norway have agreed today to engage in closer cooperation on security stabilisation and capacity building in Mali. The next step is to further determine the contribution, partners and the timeframe of this cooperation.

A necessary part of the preparations is to establish the legal basis for the contribution in a bilateral agreement for the status of Norwegian forces in Mali. To this end, we have agreed today to commence forthwith the finalisation of a bilateral status agreement between our two countries.”

 «Le Mali et la Norvège ont convenu aujourd’hui d’engager une coopération plus étroite en matière de stabilisation de la sécurité et de renforcement des capacités au Mali. La prochaine étape consistera à affirmer la nature de la contribution et à déterminer les partenaires et le calendrier de cette coopération.

 Une partie essentielle des préparations visera à établir la base juridique de la contribution par un accord bilatéral déterminant le statut des forces norvégiennes au Mali. A cette fin, nous avons convenu aujourd’hui d’entamer sans délai la finalisation d’un accord bilatéral de statut entre nos deux pays.»
