From 1 January 2015, the police can hold a foreigner longer than today when the arrest occurs under the Immigration Act.
The deadline to prepare a foreigner for the court for detention, is extended to the third day after his arrest.
– This extended dealine will increase the efficiency of the police’s work with deportations, says the Minister of Justice and Public Security Anders Anundsen.
Most immigration law arrests are brief and occur when a foreigner shall be deportated. Until now, the police in many cases has had to go to court with a petition for custody the day after his arrest.
