Norway has signed a Readmission Agreement with Pakistan. The Agreement was signed in Islamabad by the Norwegian Ambassador to Pakistan on 25 January 2017.
– Return of persons without legal stay in Norway is a priority for the Government. Even though Norway has not received many asylum seekers from Pakistan, with an exception of a short period during the second half of 2015, it is important to have good and practical arrangements for cooperation on return with Pakistani authorities, says Minister of Immigration and Integration Sylvi Listhaug (FrP).
The Agreement facilitates orderly return of Pakistani nationals without legal stay in Norway. The Agreement includes principles for return, time limits for the assessment of readmission requests and means of evidence regarding nationality. The Agreement will enter into force when the both Parties have finalised their internal procedures.
Negotiations on a Readmission Agreement started in 2014. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security have participated in the negotiations.
