The Government is introducing a requirement that people in entry quarantine must stay at a quarantine hotel during the 10-day quarantine period. This requirement will not apply to people who reside in Norway or own a home or holiday home in Norway.
“Import infections from abroad are creating major challenges. Consequently, stricter measures are needed. Experience shows that it is insufficient to implement the quarantine period in private homes and other places where it is difficult to maintain distance,” says the Minister of Justice and Public Security Monica Mæland (Con.)
This requirement does not apply to people who are in Norway to work and who can document that their employer has provided them with a suitable place to stay during the quarantine period.
Providing quarantine hotels will be the municipalities’ responsibility. The municipalities should also offer the opportunity for people to take Covid-19 tests during their stay at the quarantine hotel. The costs incurred by the municipalities will be covered by the state.
The rules concerning who must serve entry quarantine pursuant to the Covid-19 regulations have not changed. The changes concern where people must spend the quarantine period. The new requirements will enter into force on Monday 9 November 2020.
