The Minister of Culture Thorhild Widvey congratulates Bergen with the awarding of the World Championship in cycling in 2017.
- This will be a great and exciting event. The government wishes to contribute so that Norway can host international championships. A world championship on Norwegian soil will contribute to joy, rapture and enthusiasm all over the country. I am pleased that the commune of Bergen, Hordaland County and the Norwegian Cycling Association’s application to the International Cycling Association was accepted, says the Minister of Culture Thorhild Widvey.
The parliament supported earlier this year to the government’s proposal to award NOK 30 million if Bergen was chosen to host the world championship in cycling in 2017.
The allocation shall cover the championship’s costs with reference to temporary roads, security and public transport efforts due to the fact that the championship will occupy the existing road network. In addition the allocation shall cover the police’s additional costs with relevance to the closing and regulating of the road tracks when the races are in progress.
