Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien visited National Oilwell Varco in Søgne, outside Kristiansand, on Tuesday the 12th of August. National Oilwell Varco is a worldwide leader in providing goods and services for the petroleum industry.
National Oilwell Varco’s 3,000 staff make it southern Norway’s largest employer. The supply and service industry in the counties of Øst-Agder and Vest-Agder sells goods and services for around NOK 32 billion a year.
“The supply and service industry provides 10,000 jobs in southern Norway. Through their expertise and technology, these companies generate billions in revenue and jobs both in Norway and abroad,” says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien.
Later on Tuesday, the Minister visited Elkem Solar in Fiskå, which produces silicon for use in solar panels.
“Solar power is an important tool for increasing renewable energy production. Elkem Solar’s technology also drastically reduces the emissions resulting from solar panel manufacture. This is very positive,” says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien.
