Changes in the ministries

In today’s session of the Council of State, the King has decided the changes in the ministries that were announced at the change of government on 16 October 2013.

The financial implications have been taken into the 2014 state budget. The changes will take place as of 1 January 2014.

Changes

• Responsibility for most affairs under the Ministry of Government Administration, Renewal and Church Affairs will be transferred to the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, which will have its name changed to the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation (KMD).
• Responsibility for church affairs will be transferred from the Ministry of Government Administration, Modernisation and Church Affairs, to the Ministry of Culture.
• Broadband affairs will be transferred from the Ministry of Government Administration, Modernisation and Church Affairs to the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
• The Ministry of Government Administration, Modernisation and Church Affairs will be abolished.
• The Department of Planning will be transferred from the Ministry of the Environment to the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation.
• Responsibility for climate and forest affairs will be transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of the Environment, which will have its name changed to the Ministry of Climate and Environment (KLD).
• Responsibility for climate quotas affairs will be transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
• Responsibility for coastal affairs will be transferred from the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs to the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
• A new Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries will be established, consisting of two ministries which will be abolished: the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs.
• The Ministry of Labour will have its name changed to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (ASD).

Two ministers in NFD
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries will have two ministers: Minister of Fisheries Elisabeth Aspaker and Minister of Trade and Industry Monica Mæland. Mæland will also be administratively responsible for the Ministry.
