Statement about helicopter crash in Sotra

Today we have received tragic news from Hordaland county.

A helicopter en route from the North Sea to Bergen Airport (Flesland) crashed.

13 people were on board.

Unfortunately there are no signs of survivors.

 

Our thoughts go out to all of those who receive the terrible message today that they have lost a loved one.

To all who feel anxious and unsafe, and all who feel loss and pain.

Please know: You are not alone in your grief. 

 

Our thoughts also go out to all of you who work on the Norwegian continental shelf.

We share with you the loss of your friends and colleagues.

This afternoon I have spoken with Statoil’s management. I expressed my sorrow and compassion.

 

The Government is receiving continual updates on the efforts ahead, both by Statoil and by others involved. 

The emergency services and a variety of other resources arrived quickly at the scene.

I wish to thank everyone who has taken part.

 

Almost all of us know someone who works in the North Sea. It has been a long time since we have experienced such a serious accident. 

This is a heavy day.

But it is heaviest for those who have lost loved ones.
