The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to close the Norwegian Embassy in Guatemala City in the summer of 2016.
‘It is important that Norway has a flexible Foreign Service that is able to adapt and carry out its foreign policy and development policy tasks in a professional and effective way. The changes that are being made to the Foreign Service and to our international presence are a result of our political priorities and budgetary conditions,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.
‘There has been long-standing and close cooperation between Norway and Guatemala, and we are looking forward to continuing our relations through other channels,’ said Mr Brende.
The embassy in Guatemala is one of five embassies that Norway has decided to close in 2016.
The Foreign Service today comprises 103 diplomatic and consular missions in 87 countries.
