Norway's support for the Council of Europe's Action Plan for Ukraine will increase by 10 million NOK in 2016. "The Council of Europe is one of our most important partners in developing democracy, rule of law and good governance in accordance with European standards," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.
The Council of Europe's efforts include helping to improve Ukraine's ability to fulfil the human rights commitments that the country has taken upon itself as a member of the Council of Europe. The Action Plan also contains support for justice sector reform, anti-corruption efforts, fair electoral process and good governance.
Norway has earlier decided to support the Action Plan for 2015-2017 with 25 million NOK (about 3 million euros). Total Norwegian support thus amounts to 35 million NOK. This makes Norway one of the main contributors to the Council of Europe's Action Plan.
