The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received reports of fake calls being made from one of its telephone numbers, +47 23 95 00 00, by someone claiming to represent the Ministry. The caller claims there is something wrong with the person’s residence permit and asks him or her to transfer money to resolve the problem.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has notified its service provider, Telenor, of the telephone scam. The Ministry is discussing potential additional action with the police.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges all who receive such a call to report it to the police, notify their telephone provider and refrain from transferring money. Norway never asks for money for this type of service. Questions about residence permits must be directed to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).
We are working to ascertain the extent of the problem.
