State Secretary Audun Halvorsen is visiting Kyiv on 22-26 August to represent Norway at the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence and at the launch of the Crimean Platform. In addition, the State Secretary will have political talks and visit a Norwegian solar power project.
The Crimean Platform Inaugural Summit will take place on Monday 23 August, with 44 countries participating. The aim is to focus international attention on Russia’s illegal occupation of the Crimean Peninsula since 2014.
Norway consistently supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognised borders, which include the Crimean Peninsula and adjoining territorial waters. In reaction to Russia’s violations of international law, Norway has aligned itself with the EU’s restrictive measures against Russia.
The 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence will be celebrated on Tuesday 24 August. Norway supports Ukraine’s chosen Euro-Atlantic path. Norway provides approximately 200 million kroner per year to assist Ukraine’s European integration. This requires that Ukraine implements necessary reforms and continues the fight against corruption.
Norwegian companies have made large investments in renewable energy in Ukraine, and on Wednesday 25 August State Secretary Halvorsen will visit Scatecs solar power project in Bohuslav. In the afternoon he will have political talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Bodnar and Deputy Energy Minister Demchenkov, which will include the signing of an agreement (MoU) on nuclear safety cooperation.
