“I condemn the rocket attacks launched from Gaza at southern Israel both yesterday and today,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.
“I condemn the rocket attacks launched from Gaza at southern Israel both yesterday and today,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.
Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for having fired at least 60 rockets into Israel in less than two hours on Wednesday. This is the heaviest barrage on Israel since November 2012. Israeli retaliatory attacks hit dozens of targets in Gaza later on Wednesday evening. There were no reported deaths from any of the attacks. According to reports, more rockets were fired from Gaza on Thursday.
“The violence in the area is worrying, and civilians on both sides are suffering,” said Mr Brende. "Israel has the right to defend itself against attacks on its territory.
“I am worried about the consequences of escalation, not least for the ongoing peace efforts. I urge all parties to show restraint,” said Foreign Minister Brende.
