NOK 43 million to alleviate flood disaster in Bosnia-Hercegovina and Serbia

‘The Government has allocated NOK 43 million to alleviate the devastation caused by the catastrophic flooding in Bosnia-Hercegovina and Serbia. My thoughts are with all those who are affected by this disaster,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.

The death toll is now approaching 50, and large land areas are submerged in both Bosnia-Hercegovina and Serbia. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes, and roads, railways, power and water supplies have been destroyed.

‘Norway will concentrate its efforts on reconstruction. The funds allocated will mainly be used for rebuilding institutions and infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, roads and bridges that have been damaged by the flooding, but some of the money has been earmarked for emergency relief,’ said Mr Brende.

NOK 33 million has been allocated to reconstruction, while NOK 10 million has been designated for emergency relief.
