High-level Symposium in Oslo on Women’s Rights in Afghanistan

On 23 November, Norway will host the Oslo Symposium on Advancing Women’s Rights and Empowerment in Afghanistan.  

The symposium is being organised in close cooperation with the Afghan and US authorities and civil society organisations. Rula Ghani, Afghanistan’s new first lady, will be among those attending the symposium. Ms Ghani advises on issues relating to women, children and internally displaced people in Afghanistan. Together with Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Ms Ghani will take part in the opening of the symposium. Professor Husn Banu Ghazanfar, Afghanistan’s Minister of Women’s Affairs, and a number of Afghan members of parliament and activists will also be in Norway to attend the symposium. 

The purpose of the symposium is to provide an arena for discussing how Afghanistan can advance women’s rights and empowerment, as well as how the international community can support the necessary reforms. 

Only accredited members of the press will be able to attend. Accreditation in advance is required.
