‘Norway will continue to support the UN Special Envoy for Syria with an additional NOK 2.38 million,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.
On Friday 24 April, UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura briefed the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria and the way ahead.
‘The need to put an end to the violence and find a political solution has never been greater. The population in Syria has endured great suffering and needs solutions that offer hope of a better future. The UN is playing an important role, and Norway fully supports its efforts,’ commented Foreign Minister Børge Brende.
Norway’s support in connection with the conflict in Syria will amount to around NOK 750 million this year. Most of this funding will be in the form of humanitarian aid.
