Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende has condemned the terrorist attack that hit the Turkish capital Ankara today.
‘Our thoughts and our deepest sympathy go to all those affected, to those who have lost loved ones and to the people of Turkey,’ Mr Brende said.
Several thousand people had gathered near Ankara’s central train station to take part in a peace rally, when two bombs exploded within a very short space of time. Over 80 people are reported to have been killed and over 180 people have been injured, according to the Turkish authorities.
‘No matter who is responsible, this was clearly a terrorist attack and an attempt to destabilise Turkey at a time when the country is already facing a great many challenges, both at home and in the region. It is crucial that this brutal act of terror does not obstruct the election process in Turkey,’ said Mr Brende.
