'Norway condemns the launch of a long-range missile by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 7 February in the strongest possible terms. This missile launch, and the underground nuclear test on 6 January, are actions that pose a threat to regional stability,' Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende said.
The tests are in clear violation of a number of UN Security Council resolutions and united calls from the international community for the DPRK to halt its controversial weapons programmes as well as using ballistic missile technology. The DPRK's actions are making it even harder to achieve diplomatic solutions, and they are undermining the international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime.
Norway is supporting calls by Security Council members to introduce stricter sanctions against the DPRK.
'Only by choosing negotiations and solutions that are in compliance with international law can the DPRK safeguard its own security and contribute to full implementation of human rights and continued peaceful development in the region', said Mr Brende.
