Changes to travel advice for certain EEA/Schengen countries from 15 July

‘From 15 July, we are changing our travel advice for countries in Europe with acceptable levels of infection. The travel advice will be changed for countries that are excepted from the rules on quarantine on entry to Norway, that is countries that meet the criteria set by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.

More information about the criteria and the countries/regions where travel restrictions have been relaxed can be found on the Institute of Public Health’s webpages. This overview will be updated regularly.

On 15 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also introduced exceptions from the global travel advice for areas in the Nordic region that meet the Institute of Public Health criteria.

The Ministry is still advising against non-essential travel to all countries outside the Schengen area/EEA. This travel advice currently applies until 20 August.

‘Even though the Ministry is making exceptions from its travel advice from 15 July for the countries recommended by the Institute of Public Health, this should not be taken as encouragement to travel. Anyone planning to travel abroad must make sure they know what restrictions and infection control rules apply in the country they are visiting. Infection rates in Europe are still changing and the situation can change rapidly. People should think very carefully about whether travel is necessary,’ said Ms Eriksen Søreide.

Anyone who chooses to travel abroad must carry a valid passport and be covered by travel insurance. The Foreign Ministry advises all Norwegians who are travelling abroad to register their information on reiseregistrering.no (Norwegian only).

Anyone travelling abroad should make sure they are aware of the infection situation in the country they are visiting. Measures and restrictions may be different and stricter than Norwegian infection control rules. More information can be found on regjeringen.no/reiseinformasjon (Norwegian only).
