Global travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be extended until 1 July

‘The Government’s gradual reopening plan is under way, but the health authorities are advising people to avoid international travel until a greater proportion of the population has been vaccinated. For this reason, we are extending the global travel advice until 1 July. We will not maintain the travel advice for longer than is necessary, but as the situation now stands, we recommend that people plan to spend the summer holidays in Norway,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.  

The health authorities are recommending that all people, including those who have been fully vaccinated in Norway, limit their international travel as far as possible, until the majority of the adult population has been offered vaccination. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the health authorities will provide more information about the global travel advice prior to 1 July.

‘By late June or early July, we will have better insight into the infection situation in Norway, the capacity of the health service and the use of Covid-19 certificates. By then, more people will also have received the vaccine. All of these factors will determine when we can start to travel abroad again safely,’ said Ms Eriksen Søreide.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Care Services, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to provide weekly assessments of countries in the Schengen area/EEA that are excepted from the travel advice and quarantine rules.   Areas will be excepted from the global travel advice if the rate of new infections is less than 25 per 100.000 inhabitants over a two-week period and the number of positive test results is under 4 %.
