Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide will participate in the Arctic Frontiers international conference on 2-3 February 2021. The press conference with the Minister 3 February at 10:30 can be seen at web tv.

The conference, which usually brings several thousand participants to Tromsø, will be held on a digital platform this year. The Minister will participate in a panel debate on the Arctic, as well as in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Arctic Council. The conference will be held on 1–4 February and participants will include Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Løfven, Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius and US Senator for Alaska Lisa Murkowski.

Tuesday 2 February, 16:30-18:00 local time
The Minister will participate in the Building the Future session, which will focus on the situation of young people in the Arctic region – how they can influence policy, and the opportunities and challenges they are facing. High Representative/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles will participate with a pre-recorded presentation. In addition to Ms Eriksen Søreide, participants on the live panel will include US Coordinator for the Arctic Region James DeHart, Stanford University student Sam Schimmel and United World College student Carter Ayasse.

The Arctic Council celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2021. To mark the occasion, the Arctic Council Secretariat and Arctic Frontiers will co-host a conference session highlighting the key role that the organisation has played, and continues to play, in international cooperation in the Arctic. In addition to Ms Eriksen Søreide, participants will include Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson and representatives of indigenous peoples.
