Due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, supply chain issues have arisen in relation to key materials used in the production of passports and national ID cards. This means that the supplier is unable to maintain a level of production to meet the increased demand for passports and national ID cards from everybody who wants one before the summer.
The police encourage everyone to delay booking foreign holidays until they know that they have the necessary travel documentation to hand.
If you are travelling within the EU/EEA and Switzerland, you should apply for a national ID card. According to the police, these have a somewhat shorter delivery time.
If you are travelling to the United Kingdom, you should note that following Brexit, only Norwegian citizens with a right to remain in the UK may use a national ID card upon entry to the country. All other travellers must hold a valid passport that will remain valid for the duration of their stay.
