The Ministry of Culture and Science was established on 1 January 1982. Culture and science affairs were transferred from an additional minister in the Ministry of Church and Education.
On 16 October 1989, responsibility for science affairs in the Ministry of Culture and Science was transferred to the minister responsible for the Ministry of Church and Education, while responsibility for church affairs in the Ministry of Church and Education was transferred to the minister responsible for the Ministry of Culture and Science. On 1 January 1990, science affairs were transferred from the Ministry of Culture and Science to the Ministry of Church and Education, while church affairs were transferred from the Ministry of Church and Education to the Ministry of Culture and Science. The Ministry of Culture and Science now had its name changed to the Ministry of Church and Culture. The Ministry of Church and Education had its name changed to the Ministry of Education and Research, listed here as the Ministry of Education and Research (of 1990).
