Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Third Government was appointed by Crown Prince Regent Harald in a session of the Council of State on 3 November 1990, effective as of the same day at 2 p.m. It succeded Jan P. Syse’s Government, due to internal disagreement in this Government on Norway’s relations to the European Communities (EC).
In a session of the Council of State on 25 October 1996, Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Third Government handed in its resignation, as the Labour Party wanted to change prime minister. Permission to leave was granted by King Harald V in the same session of the Council of State, effective as of the same day at 1.30 p.m. At the same time, Thorbjørn Jagland’s Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
