Jan P. Syse's Government
16. October 1989–3. November 1990
Conservative Party (H), Christian Democratic Party (KrF) and Centre Party (Sp)
Jan P. Syse’s Government was appointed by King Olav V in a session of the Council of State on 16 October 1989, effective as of the same day at 2 p.m. It succeded Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Second Government, after general elections on 11 September 1989 had rendered a majority in the Storting for a change of government.
In a session of the Council of State on 29 October 1990, Jan P. Syse’s Government handed in its resignation, due to internal disagreement in the Government on Norway’s relations to the European Communities (EC). Permission to leave was granted by Crown Prince Regent Harald in a session of the Council of State on 3 November 1990, effective as of the same day at 2 p.m. At the same time, Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Third Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
Secretary to the Council of State in this period:
Secretary General Dag Berggrav
