Kåre Willoch's Government

Kåre Willoch’s Government was apponted by King Olav V in a session of the Council of State on 14 October 1981, effective as of the same day at 12 noon. It succeded Gro Harlem Brundtland’s First Government, after general elections on 14 September 1981 had rendered a majority in the Storting for a change of government.

In a session of the Council of State on 8 June 1983, Kåre Willoch’s Government was expanded to represent also the Christian Democratic Party and the Centre Party, becoming a majority coalition government. In the general elections on 9 September 1985, the parties in Kåre Willoch’s Government lost their majority in the Storting.

In a session of the Council of State on 2 May 1986, Kåre Willoch’s Government handed in its resignation, following a vote of no confidence in the Storting on restrictive economic measures. Permission to leave was granted by King Olav V in a session of the Council of State on 9 May 1986, effective as of the same day at 2 p.m. At the same time, Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Second Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
