Kjell Magne Bondevik's First Government
17. October 1997–17. March 2000
Christian Democratic Party (KrF), Centre Party (Sp) and Liberal Party (V)
Kjell Magne Bondevik’s First Government was appointed by King Harald V in a session of the Council of State on 17 October 1997, effective as of the same day at 1 p.m. It succeded Thorbjørn Jagland’s Government, as general elections on 14 September 1997 had not strengthened this Government’s political basis in the Storting.
In a session of the Council of State on 10 March 2000, Kjell Magne Bondevik’s First Government handed in its resignation, after a vote of no confidence in the Storting on the issue of gasworks. Permission to leave was granted by King Harald V in a session of the Council of State on 17 March 2000, effective as of the same day at 12 noon. At the same time, Jens Stoltenberg’s First Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
Secretary to the Council of State in this period:
Secretary General Bjørn T. Grydeland
