Kjell Magne Bondevik’s Second Government was appointed by King Harald V in a session of the Council of State on 19 October 2001, effective as of the same day at 12 noon. It succeded Jens Stoltenbergs First Government, after general elections on 10 September 2001 had rendered a majority in the Storting for a change of government.
In a session of the Council of State on 14 October 2005, Kjell Magne Bondevik's Second Government handed in its resignation, as general elections on 12 September 2005 had rendered a majority in the Storting for a change of government. Permission to leave was granted by King Harald V in a session of the Council of State on 17 October 2005, effective as of the same day at 1 p.m. At the same time, Jens Stoltenberg's Second Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
