Negotiations on Venezuela

The Government of Venezuela and the Unitary Platform of Venezuela have decided to enter into negotiations on an agreement that may secure an integrated solution to the crisis in the country.

During the last six months, the parties have drawn up a framework for a political negotiation process, facilitated by Norway.

The political negotiations started in Mexico City 14 August 2021. The process will be facilitated by Norway.

The parties are prepared to negotiate constructively to achieve results that are beneficial for the people of Venezuela. They will carry out consultations with both political and civil society actors during the process. Moreover, there is mutual agreement on the need to respect the sensitive nature of the negotiations, in order to give the parties the space to achieve swift progress.
