Biotechnology encompasses any technology using microorganisms or the cells of vegetable matter, animals or humans. The Biotechnology Act aims to ensure that biotechnology for medical applications is best utilised for the benefit of a society with a place for everyone.
The Biotechnology Act governs such areas as:
• Assisted fertilisation
• Embryonic diagnostics
• Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis
• Genetic examinations
