Statement by Minister of International Development Anne Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim

I am appalled by the attack on the only remaining functioning hospital in Al Fasher, Sudan on January 24th. As stated by the UN ., at least 70 patients and caretakers were killed in this attack, which was reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).  
 
This is one of many gruesome examples of attacks on health facilities during the conflict in Sudan. The targeting of health facilities and health personnel is prohibited according to International Humanitarian Law.  
 
I am deeply concerned by reports of deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. This must stop immediately, and civilians must always be protected.  

I yet again call upon the parties to the conflict in Sudan to comply with International Humanitarian Law.
