The Norwegian Minister of Defence visits Turkey

(04.10.2002) The Norwegian Minister of Defence, Mrs. Krohn Devold is visiting Turkey 3-7. October. She will have political discussions with Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit and Minister of National Defence Sabahattin Çakmakoglu.

The international war against terrorism will be one of the main topics of discussion. Turkey is in command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) which provides security in and around Kabul. Norway has contributed to ISAF with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and a Movement Control Unit (air traffic logistics), and is for the time being in charge of ISAF’s explosive ordnance disposal activity.

In addition will questions concerning the preparations to the NATO Summit in Prague 2002, NATO-enlargement and the relationship between NATO-EU be discussed.

Mrs. Krohn Devold will also pay a visit to the headquarters 3 rd> Corps and the naval base Gölcük outside Istanbul.
