The Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Svein Ludvigsen, sets the problem with the blue whiting on the international agenda. He invites his colleges in the EU, the Russian Federation, Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland to discuss the management of the blue whiting in Torshavn on 29 May.

- There is no agreement between the coastal states on the management of blue whiting in the North Atlantic. At the same time the scientists have informed us that the stock of blue whiting cannot sustain the current fishing pressure, says the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Svein Ludvigsen.

- In this situation I have unilaterally chosen to stop the Norwegian fishery for blue whiting. Norway is of the opinion that there is an urgent need to discuss measures in order to get the fishery for blue whiting under control. I therefore have invited to a joint meeting in Torshavn on Sunday 29 May, says the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Ludvigsen.

The meeting will take place prior to the North Atlantic Ministers of Fisheries Conference in Torshavn, Faroe Islands 30 - 31 May.
