Norway supports the strengthening of human rights in China
"During this year’s roundtable with China on human rights, the focus will be on the rights of prisoners, detainees and workers. We want to have an open dialogue on these issues and to find areas for practical co-operation that can improve the situation," said State Secretary Vidar Helgesen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A number of ministries, academic institutions, NGOs and representatives of the judicial system from both countries are taking part in working groups. This is being combined with bilateral political consultations in which the situation in Tibet and the use of torture and the death penalty are being taken up.
The roundtable on human rights is part of the human rights dialogue between Norway and China and is held every year. This time it is being held in Oslo.
